Re: Steam Trains to Sovereign Street on a 1914/1919 theme

A few weeks back I was in an all but stationary queue on the M6. I had just heard how far the queue stretched, when I realised I was approaching Junction 9. Salvation, home turf, spent the first 30 years of my life around there. So it was rat run time, which took me past Bescot station. I couldn't r...

Re: Steam Trains to Sovereign Street on a 1914/1919 theme

You have to remember that there have been 2 big changes to docks over the last 40-50 years, containerisation and the mechanisation of bulk handling. Containerisation has removed boxes and crates standing around in the open waiting for a wagon and a crane to move them. Mechanised bulk handling has do...

Re: Help with motor identifcation please

The Maxon would only go in an 0 gauge or larger type. It's obviously been used as a mini drill. The one that is built between the two flat slabs comes from slot car racing, I don't know who made them. The one I had was very high revving, not much grunt and needed around 60:1 gearing to be any use bu...

Re: Identification Help, Soviet?

I can't add anything about the model other than it looks to be of a similar quality to that which came out of the former East Germany, which would be a logical source for USSR imports. We have a Russian contributor who goes by the ID Mixy, he's the developer of the SCARM layout planning software and...

Re: Loco Turntables

I was just looking for examples of turntables on YouTube and I spotted a solution to aligning the track by eye. The turn table was being turned by hand with a long bar sticking out over the concrete surround. If I add a bar like it on two diagonally opposite corners and a post for it to line up with...

Re: Loco Turntables

One of the reasons for my slow progress was the need to build a deck which could fit the space I could clear, at the cost of one carriage siding being diverted to be the approach track, cutting back an embankment and repositioning the water tower I now can fit a deck that will accommodate a Hall, ju...

Re: Gaugemaster Combi Wiring Query

The six pin din would not be difficult, The only problem being the connections at the hand held part. If you are prepared to forsake the Gaugemaster lifelong warranty they are quite easy to open up and change the wiring. I have three handhelds, which are virtually the same thing and have opened all ...

Re: Lima GWR 4575

Waking up this thread brought me to re-reading it, I wonder if you discovered that those bits of wire aren't propping up the smoke box, they are holding up the front footplate extension, mind you it could well have been one of my old fitter friend's tall tales.

Funny thing about those loft ladders Geoff, mine seems to be stiffening up at about the same rate as yours

I bet it wasn't as many as the handrail pillars that have failed to make it onto one of my locos.

Re: Gaugemaster Combi Wiring Query

You seem to have the idea. You will only be able to run one train at a time with a single combi. You will however still be able to cross from one loop to the other by as you say putting both sets of wires into a choc-block connector. Depending on what you plan, ie fitting point motors rather than op...

Re: 2021 Range

I'd forgotten about "Spaceships" There were never many 9Fs in our locality so I wouldn't have heard many references to them when hanging around Bescot station footbridge. (The spotters viewing platform, one of the few spots where surrounding land was above rail level). My uncle the signalm...

Re: Loco Turntables

There's a half finished TT in the corner of my layout which has been a work in progress for nearly a year, the old excuse, life got in the way. As soon as I can get the post Christmas pile of boxes and junk back in their non Christmas hidey hole I'll try to get it finished. A few years back I answer...
