Re: Ikea tables for a baseboard

I am thinking of doing something similar using IKEA Kallax units. These are 147 x 76 and have the added advantage of having 8 storage spaces in them which can have drawers of containers fitted to them. Ideal for all the model bits and pieces and locos/ rolling stock. A friend has suggested fitting r...

Re: Garden railway plan.

Thanks for the replies. A couple of queries. 1. What gauge copper wire should I use? I will be running DCC as I have a few sound locos. 2. I do have some large radius points which I can use. I have quite a lot of points and crossovers etc and some flexi track but as you say new is best. I will look ...

Garden railway plan.

We have just moved into a new house which does not have a loft like the old one so my railway has ceased to be. We are going to have the garden landscaped and then I will have a 12 x 8 ish garden room which is a superior shed, ( My wife is paying for it and she doesn't want some old shed spoiling th...

Dynamis playing up.

My Dynamis has started to lay up after a couple of months inactivity. I have changed the batteries but the problem persists. It will be OK for a while and then the speed control goes to max all of a sudden without any input. My layout is in the loft but I keep my controllers downstairs in the warm. ...

Re: London loft build

What did you insulate the loft with? Looks like just what I need apart from the Kingspan which is expensive.

Re: railway art thread

I was at Blackpool central in the let fifties or so when a Black 5 came in and hit the buffers at the end of the platform. It did a fair bit of damage and lifted a small cabin into the air a bit. out of it staggered a couple of very shocked railway workers. To my young eyes it was the most exciting ...

Great layout and lots of ideas for me to try, thanks. I have been looking for some point levers for quite a while now so many thanks for the tip on sourcing them from Dart Castings.

Re: Dynamis playing up.

Hi Flashbang, Thanks for the reply. I did not explain myself very well! Only the sound has stopped working, it still runs, if a little slow to react. I tried a couple of my locos and they seem fine. I will give the dynamis a good clean and try again. I am going to take the body off the western and s...

Dynamis playing up.

My Dynamis has started playing up. For no reason the speed control either goes to zero or all the way up to full power. It also randomly selects different loco addresses. Last time it did this it settled down after a while but now seems determined to lead it's own life! Trouble is that I have just b...

Re: Brrrrrr!

Thanks for all the replies. Sorry bufferstop no garage or outbuildings here. Just an Edwardian terrace with two beds. I insulated most of the roof with cheap polystyrene boards from b and q but I am going upmarket next year and buying kingspan which is what I should have done in the first place. Tro...

Brrrrrr!

Hi all, Anyone got any tips to take the chill off my loft? It is partly insulated but not too nice a place to spend any time in at this time of year. I have packed away in insulated cases all my locos and moved all my delicate electronic stuff downstairs. I would still like to work on my layout thou...

Re: Not a layout - but railway modelling

Lovely work all of you. I know what I am going to be doing this winter when the cold drives me out of the attic. I have to bring all my locos and delicate DCC kit down but the track never seems to suffer or any of the Metcalfe kits I have built so it can't be all that damp. I do have a small depot t...

National Express.

Hi all, I read in Railway news this morning that National Express have bid for, and are likely to be awarded, the contracts to run a couple of passenger franchises in Germany. The mind boggles. Is this the same National Express which handed it's East Coast franchise back early? There was I thinking ...

Wells Road TMD

Hi all, I have removed the photos as for some reason photobucket has uploaded all my photos! Here are a few photos of my modern TMD which I decided to make as a practice ground for my main layout, Arnos Vale which seems to have stalled somewhat due to family commitments and holidays and the weather ...
