They were specific to the regional company. This is a very complicated field. The railway buildings and station furniture were usually similar in each area. Corporate paint colour schemes allowed bulk buying of paint... LMS red, etc. If you cannot decide you could always make them black, and mostly ...

Also (no edit) loco drive is a fairly recent Hornby re-innovation, so look for recent models, even the Railroad (cheapie) ones though I think they use the old tender drive tenders (somewhat innaccurate to hide the motor gubbins) but still a great improvement.

If they don't tell you that they are loco drive then they are probably hiding something, or trying to, so don't buy.

Favourite hate?...the one they modelled the old Triang Hornby Metro Cammell one with gnarled wheels on, which replaced branch line steam where I lived. Great motor, wish they would re-release it in modern guise so I could write 'Steam Lives On' graffiti on the sides!

Great photos! too many pacifics? maybe, but if you like them, run them...it could have happened, and did, sometimes...they look great! are you all DCC? I can't recall? Because if you were not I have no problem with Mainline/Replica B1s. In fact I think if B1 upgrade it may be only the chassis. Mine ...
