Re: DCC Short
These older motors are quite power-hungry. The Hornby R8249 decoder is only rated at 0.5A and has no short circuit or overload protection. I would recommend a better decoder such as the Lenz Standard+ that is rated at a full 1A and also has short circuit protection. An alternative would be the Zimo ...

Re: More eBay nonsense...........
Well I am flabbergasted, you can buy this for about £24.99 - £ 29.99, just look at this price. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rare-Hornby-R8508-Skaledale-Hubbards-Hill-Mill/254488943357?hash=item3b40b91afd:g:qHkAAOSwk09eJ3kX I suspect most of these £1000 items are just placeholders - he doesn't actuall...

Re: Noisy class 205
I would simply remove the excess - did that on one of mine and simply used a cotton wool bud to do that. You need to leave a sufficient amount in to keep the gears lubricated. The sound does seem like the gears rattling. Perhaps try using the cotton wool bud to extract the excess and smear it over t...

It's a while since I worked on mine, but I believe you are correct - it is a tight clip-fit.

Re: Noisy class 205
OK, useful answer, almost certainly drag in the gear train that takes the drive from the worm connected directly to the motor shaft, down to the axles in the bogie. (It should coast smoothly and quietly the best part of a metre, if that part of the mechanism is OK.) Now the crunch question: have yo...

Re: BARGAINS!
Absolute bargain ,4 lengths of peco flexi ,brand new never used ,,bargain at £125.99 ,if you are interested then search ,,goldfishinovations,,on eBay  Being as the listing shows 124 sold, I assume the seller is out of stock and hence set the price this high to deter buyers till he has more st...

Re: Hornby Maunsell coaches.
On the 2-BILs they're clear plastic and part of the glazing. But just looked at a Maunsell coach and they're black so not sure what they're attached to. So have a look yourself - they're fairly obvious - but do proceed with caution!

Re: Hornby Maunsell coaches.
There are 4 tabs at each corner. You need to carefully push these in with a small screwdriver. I've not opened one myself but if they're the same as the 2-BIL coaches then there's a tab in the centre as well. Best to slide a piece of plastic between the coach sides before pushing the tabs in.

Re: Lenz Digital Plus LS150 not accepting programming
Did the Hornby transformer supply DC power rather than AC? According to the manual this can damage it.
You can pick up SH LS150s off Ebay quite cheaply these days - around £25-30 or so.

Just slide a thin-bladed screwdriver underneath and gradually prise up. Fingers are fine - they protect the wires - but you risk bending the pins!

Re: Modify and combining standard points and slips
Although the seller claims the unit has live frogs requiring polarity switching that's only partially true. The 3 simple turnouts are Electrofrog but the double slip and diamond crossing are both Insulfrog, so only 3 out of 7 frogs are live. I assume therefor it's Peco code 100 components rather tha...

Re: Bachmann 4 road engine shed
Sounds like his track is fixed to some underlay thereby raising it up so there will most likely be a need to add some packing strips for the shed. My track is on a 5mm underlay, but it extends to the side so the shed sits on that too and I have no problems.
