It depends what period you're modelling. The valances were removed by LNER during WW2 and were never restated. So if you're modelling pre-war, run with valances and if post-war run without.

According to one of the magazines (Either Hornby or Model Rail) the lack of roundels, along with lack of soleplate printing, plastic wheels etc. is part of Hornby's "Railroad" spec. However the Hornby website shows the "regular" Mk 1's without roundels, although they do have sole...

The current Hornby Magazine has an article on "Stay Alive" capacitors, which will store power onboard the loco and provide backup power when needed. It's generally used to keep lights running but would be useful in providing assistance over points when the power is interrupted. I'm not sur...
