Re: I'm undecided, again!
Have you thought on a bit of a DIY solution? SG90 servos work out at about £2 each if bought in 10-12 packs, do need a mount, if you know someone with a 3d printer thats easy, can make from card or plastic sheet as well reasonably cheap. these work nicely as slow acting point motors. A PCA9685 serv...

Re: I'm undecided, again!
Hmmm, neither option Im considering are 'automation.' They are both analog press a button \ throw a switch. The MPC S2 has some neat operational methods such as the ability to give non DCC accessories an 'address' so one or more can be operated, in different directions if required, at the press of a...

I'm undecided, again!
The world of modelling never mind model railways, gives a bewildering choice of options and once again, Im undecided! Im talking actual points control. The layout will have DCC locos but will use DCC Concepts IP Analog point motors. They'll be operated via DC and switches. But it's the actual contro...

OO scale back to back wheel gauge.
Amongst the OO scale back to back gauges available, DCC Concepts do a 14.85mm special fine, 14.75mm fine scale and a 14.5mm standard! A few questions, 14.85mm and 14.75mm, who and what are these for? Out of all three, for bog standard locos and rolling stock running on Peco Code 75 bullhead, why sho...

Re: DCC Sound advice sought
As I cannot visit any UK shops to listen, I would like to request an OPINION on the best sound-chip for the Bachmann Pannier 57xx. Clearly, something quite small is needed. Anyone have experience which chips fit and/or whose chip sounds most convincing? Again I realize this is largely a matter of t...

Rails & Hattons 'Archive' auction.
Looks like a load of old tat and clearing out of a forgotten storeroom and contents to me! Still, might be the last chance to buy some of this stuff. https://www.sheffieldauctiongallery.com/auction/details/-the-rails-x-hattons-archive-sale---auction-no-1/?au=72&_kx=atUpOtGzuuPvurMtr-Ljw5jg7hbY1j...

Re: Frog wire length?
The only aspect I am concerned with is that the bond to the crossing is good. That's the vulnerable spot, Totally agree and given the thickness or rather thiness of the frog wire, Im bemused why the likes of Peco use it. I think in a couple of Larry Pucket's vids he uses Walthers points and they ha...

Frog wire length?
The frog wire on Peco OO scale bullhead Unifrogs seem shorter than that I have seen on their electrofrog range. In comparison the frog wire on single and double slips seems excessive. And yes, I know on slips, the point motor controls the furthest point from it hence why the frog wire is longer. Sti...

Re: RFID tags
pondering. Aware its possible to use an FRID tag to provide an ID number, roll it over the sensor and get the ID. then use it for whatever. has anyone experimented with the user data portion of the ID tags though? e.g. instead say of reading the ID, looking it up in a table to get the DCC address, ...

Re: New Stanier Black 5
Locomotion now have a far more 'sober' version available, which looks way better. This is in 'as preserved' condition, LMS livery Black 5 as 5428 'Eric Treacy'. (This loco was only named after the LMS had long ceased to exist, whip off the plates, paint out the OHL warning flashes, to make a start ...

Re: judicious use of light varnish . . . .?
I like my locos to be 'pristine' and not weathered. That said, I have a couple that are lightly weathered either by the manufacturer or TMC, but Im not into the absolutely filthy look.
There's something odd about a super shiny loco as well so that's not a liked look by me, either.

Re: New Stanier Black 5
Seen a few YT vids where people have got their hands on this LMS version. There's a bit too much silver on this model for my liking ie smoke box door hinges and driving wheel hubs and yes, I realise this loco was probably like that in 'real life.' I'll hang fire on this until the other livery versio...

Re: Best way to sell a collection quickly
Hi, I need to sell off of my small collection of N scale locos, rolling stock, set track, controllers, complete train sets, etc as a job lot. Nearly everything is boxed and in mint condition. It's a mixture of DC and DCC. I imagine it must have all cost around £500 to £1,000 when new, possibly more...
