Lee's Model Railway

About a year ago I bought a 14 foot by 6 foot shed and used nearly all of it for the start of my model railway, later realising I needed some space to have a little work bench. Anyway after some thinking I've decided on starting from scratch and I've totally redesign the layout. Its a bit smaller but I'm having 2 levels and it will be in a horse shoe shape.

There is a little fiddler yard on the right hand side with a mainline going around the bottom layer. There is another smaller mainline inside the outer mainline which will be linked together.

Then inside the small main line there is a slope giving access to the upper level. This will link the main line station to the upper station.

Branching of the upper slope is a line for coal transport this line goes around in a horse shoe shape leading over the bridge, at one of the ends will be a factory for the coal. (See above)

I decided to model my hills with polystyrene and I am also going to make some of them look like rock faces with bushes and trees scattered around. Above you can see the hills and rock faces under construction.

I then ballasted all the track (see below) and to be honest it took a long time as well as a lot of track cleaning afterwards. A big hint people "DO TAKE YOUR TIME" to glue in ballast as glue on the track plays havoc with the smooth running of the trains and I will repeat "a lot of trouble". O well all sorted now and its coming on nicely, and all points are working now.

I've added a lot more detail now including trees I made myself as well as brought ones. I have also added bushes and reeds and made the stream. I still need to perfect the water but I will sort it out at a later date.

Well now I've added something called static grass. Its got to be my best purchase yet. I've added it to my rocks and hills and the effect is mind blowing. I have also added a lot more bushes and other scenics.

And that is as far as I have got.
