Introduction
I have produced this website to aid people new to the hobby of model
railways. When I started building my own model railway I found that there was
very little information out there for the beginner and lots of jargon. I found
that modelling books and magazines were mainly catering for experienced
modellers, with little attempt to encourage new people in to this hobby.
This website will hopefully give you all the information that you need to
produce your first small scale railway like the one I made below:
For your first attempt I would advise a simple oval layout, with a little
bit of everything in it so you can gain experience. Joining a local modelling
club is very useful as they can give you lots of free advice and ideas and it is
a very good way of meeting new people.
Many modelling clubs have websites so try searching for one in your area.
After you have mastered the basics you should start reading the more
experienced modelling books and magazines. By then you will understand all the
lingo and have the skills to create a first class layout.
If you have any good hints and tips or if you need some advice on something
not mentioned, feel free to Email me at
