A History in Brief

1898/99:
Founded by Wenman Joseph Bassett-Lowke. Based in Northampton
Bassett-Lowke
•manufactured model railways, model boats and ships plus construction sets.
Bassett-Lowke produced model trains in various scales:
15 inch live steam. Gauge “2”, Gauge “1” and “0”
•1920s: Bassett-Lowke introduced 00
gauge products.
•1950s: Bassett-Lowke’s decline
started due to the general decline in technical
products.
1960s: Bassett-Lowke sell off it’s
retail outlets
1965:
Bassett-Lowke ceased trading.
•1966: The company was acquired by
Messrs Riley & Derry and then later in..
1980's:
The company
was acquired by Nigel Turner, a Northamptonshire business man.
1996: Corgi purchased the name
Bassett-Lowke where they embarked on producing live
steam “0” gauge locomotives.
•2008: Hornby purchased Corgi,
including Bassett-Lowke.
