Hornby 2007 Information - Track Mats, and Building Packs

It seems that Hornby are ditching their existing Trakmat and replacing it with 2 different trakmats one of which was the trakmat plan for the Thomas range and a new trakmat called MidiMat. Both track mats use the same track packs and building packs as each other and are the same as the existing packs for the Hornby Thomas range. Both track mats are based around an original 3rd radius oval which will be supplied with Hornby train sets.

The MidiMat is basically the same as the Trakmat but is complete at pack D. The MidiMat is supplied with 4 of the cheapest Hornby DC train sets.

Hornbys attempt to replace 2 track mats 2 types of track packs and 2 types of building packs with just 1 type of track pack and building pack and 2 track Mats designated around the same track design is clearly an effort to reduce costs and stream line their product range. Hornby has already started re-branding all its track and accessories under all 5 of the Product ranges (Hornby, Lima, Rivarossi, Jouef, Electrotren) it now owns in an effort to standardise the product and reduce the costs of having five different branded ranges.
