Last year saw an abundance of exquisitely detailed steam models from Hornby, with the Class A1, A3, A4 and Grange further raising modelling standards - a hard act to follow, but with 2006’s offerings, modellers will sure to find something to their liking.

The Britannia Class 7P6F, an old favourite of modellers and collectors since 1960, is updated this year with a high level of detail throughout and a motor fitted in the locomotive. DCC ready and featuring NEM couplings, there will be a model available for all interests - BR (early) ‘Britannia’, BR (late) ‘William Wordsworth’ and BR (late) ‘Firth of Tay’ (weathered). Continuing Hornby’s partnership with the National Railway Museum, the fifth model in the ‘National Collection’ series will also be BR liveried ‘Oliver Cromwell’.

Hornby is resolute in providing new locomotives following customer feedback. This year, a number of brand new model classes are expected. First up will be a totally new tooled Class M7, last produced in 1976, in Southern , BR (early) and BR (late) liveries. Following on will be the King Arthur Class, also in Southern (‘Excalibur’), BR (early) (‘Sir Gawain’ and ‘Sir Henry le Fise Lake’) and BR (late) (‘King Arthur’).

Bullied fans will also look forward to the all new Rebuilt West Country Class, in the guise of ‘Plymouth’ (BR (early) weathered) and ‘Ottery St Mary’ (BR (early), and Battle of Britain Class as ‘Sir Keith Park’ (BR (early)) and ‘17 Squadron’ (BR (late)).

Other locomotives to look out for this year will be new liveries on some of last year’s exquisite models, including BR Class A4 ‘Woodcock’, BR Class A3 ‘St Gatien’, GWR 6800 Grange Class ‘Llanfair Grange’ and BR (early) 6800 Grange Class ‘Frankton Grange’ (weathered).

Live Steam
Ever since the advent of ‘00’ gauge model railways it has been the dream of many to be able to operate a Live Steam model locomotive on their layouts. Since 2003, Hornby has brought this dream to reality, and the superb stable of Class A4s and Class A3s is set to be further enhanced this year. - introducing LNER Class A3 ‘Flying Scotsman’ with double tender. This year is the 40th anniversary of loco receiving a second tender which at the time allowed the ‘Scot’ to carry a water load of 11,000 gallons, giving it an operating distance of 200 - 250 miles before the tender required replenishment,

To coincide with this anniversary, a special Limited Edition production of the Hornby Live Steam ‘Flying Scotsman’ model with a double tender has been included in this year’s range. A total of 1,000 models will be produced with each model complete with a certificate, water and oil fillers as well as
instructions. Please note, the second tender is not equipped to hold water.
