Hornby’s outstanding stable of train sets is further enhanced
this year with selection of new sets. ‘The Rover’ is an ideal industrial set
containing an 0-4-0 industrial loco, six plank wagon, 12 ton vent van and four
wheel coach, plus a basic oval of track and TrakMat. A new ‘Premier Boxed Set’
will also be available during 2006 - the ‘Master Cutler’ will join the ‘Venice
Simplon-Orient-Express’.
The former contains
BR blue Class A3 ‘Prince Palatine’ and three new BR (ex LNER) coaches - 3rd
Class Brake, 1st Class Corridor and 3rd Class Corridor, plus new TrakMat, HVR2
CD-Rom and track. Extension coach packs will also be available for both Premier
Box Sets.
For the modeller looking to replicate one of the network’s
premier trains, three new Train Packs are expected in 2006. Firstly, for steam
enthusiasts, ‘The Devon Belle’ and ‘The Talisman’ recreate the golden age of
steam. ‘The Devon Belle’ contains BR West Country Class ‘Yestor’ and three
Pullman cars, reproducing the train as seen on the Waterloo - Plymouth route.
‘The Talisman’ is hauled
by BR Class A3 ‘Sandwich’ with three BR Mk1 coaches in tow. Both train packs can
also be extended with coach packs.
Hornby
is also pleased to be offering Virgin Train’s premier multiple unit - the
Pendolino. Designed to tilt around curves, the prototype Pendolino can corner up
to 20% faster giving a top speed of 125mph on routes from London Euston to the
Midlands and West Scotland. Hornby’s train pack will allow the modeller to form
a basic unit, with further coaches planned for 2007.
The Dean Single 4-2-2 ‘Lord of the Isles’ was first introduced
into the Hornby range (then Tri-ang) 45 years ago. Now some 25 years since it
last appeared in the Hornby range, a special anniversary ‘Lord of the Isles’
limited edition train pack is once more available for the model collector. In 25
years, manufacturing techniques and materials have changed but where possible
Hornby has tried to capture the very essence of this limited edition model train
as it was not only in 1981 but as far back as 1961, the year of the locomotive’s
introduction. Contained in a special presentation pack, each train is complete
with a limited edition certificate denoting that it is one of 2500.
