Hornby EWS Ballast wagon (Seacow)
Review
Hornby EWS Ballast wagon (seacow)
(R6286A, B or C)
Rating 10/10

This new model by Hornby
(R6286) has to be the most detailed wagon I have seen. Hornby's seacow puts the
old Lima model (£14 RRP) to shame. Look at the picture below. on the left is the
old Lima seacow model and on the right the new Hornby seacow model.

The new Hornby Seacow has the
following features
1.
NEM coupling
2. Weathering -
ballast shoots have been weathered to resemble ballast dust and the wheels have
been weathered and look rusted.
3. Fine pipe
detailing (incredibly fine)
4. Brass wheels
(weathered)
5. Sprung buffers.
6. Comes in 3
numbers.
The Hornby Seacow
takes standard Hornby points with ease and at speed. Runs quite and smooth along
the track. The fine detail look delicates but feels surprisingly robust.
The Hornby model is in a
different league to the Lima model. I can see the price of second hand lima
seacows which has been at about £14 falling drastically. I personally have all 5
different numbered seacows which lima produced and thought they were great, but
now I am considing selling them to buy more Hornby seacows.
For the price (RRP 18.50, but more like £16 online) I don’t see
how you can go wrong buying this model. All in all an excellent model. Well done
Hornby.
