Hornby Model Railway Maintenance Crane R6004 Review

Worth Buying - This is an average model. The model has limitations and does not have a full range of mechanical or detailing features. For a railway model to be rated as "Worth Buying" a model must score between 4 and 7. Maintenance Crane (R6004) Rating 7/10, Great Fun, Detailing could be better.

Maintenance Crane R6004

This is a very quiet runner, with plastic wheels which have split axels. I have never seen this on a model before and I can only assume there is a reason for it. The chains are made of real metal and are functional. The crane has two movements that are controlled by the chains, which are raising the arm and lifting the hook. The crane also swings around 360°. The crane is operated by two discreet knobs, located on the side of the crane. The mechanism locks after each move, so that if you lift an item it will not fall down if you let go! The chassis is made of solid metal, probably to stop it falling over and is rather heavy. The painting details is extremely poor, but the model has potential if painted up and the moulding highlighted.
