Hornby Model Railway Brake Van Review
Hornby
LNER 20 Ton Brake Van (R6307A) Rating 6/10
The Hornby LNER 20 Ton Brake Van is an above
average model but with scope for improvements. The cabin of this
version is primarily painted brown with white highlights to
represent railings. The chassis is all black with the same white
highlights but this time to highlight the running boards

Some of the hand rails on this model are metal
but the ones fitted to the cabin are moulded in place and have
no gap between the rail and the cab. If these were made from
metal and attached to the cab this model would have got a
recommended rating. Its worth comparing the picture of this
model to the one below.

The Hornby LNER 20 Ton Brake Van does have metal
wheels, additional brake hoses and flush glazing, but it only
has standard couplings and un-sprung buffers. Strangely this
model has an unexpected level of detail under the model. It has
the braking gear, worm gear and braking springs associated with
a brake van. Unfortunately you cant see this when its in
operation.

BR 20 Ton Brake Van (R6350) Rating 6/10
The Hornby BR 20 Ton Brake Van is an above
average model but with scope for improvements. The above review
also applies to this model except when it comes to the livery.
Personally the BR 20 Ton Brake Van is much more attractive and
detailed with regard to livery than the LNER model.

This model has the normal overhead power warning
signs and information boards. The thing that sticks out to me on
this model is the bright yellow and black warning markings on
both ends of the cab. This along with the red stripe really
brings this model to life.
