Hornby Model Railway Locomotive Reviews -
Class 58
Class
58 EWS weathered
(close couple pair) (R2411)
Rating 5/10 Strong puller, good Model.
This model also came with an identical dummy class 58 to run as
a double header. Only the powered car is shown. This model was surprisingly
heavy. I don't know weather this was just me but it felt heavier than the
other locos I have.

This loco unlike most of Hornby's diesels is fitted with the type 7 motor
found on the shunters. This gives this loco excellent slow speed control and
also a very powerful sound. It also seems to have very good traction and
power. Because of the motor its top speed is slower than most other models,
but still within its scale speed. This model has an acceptable level of
detail on the exterior. This particular model has the weathered effect but
you can also get it without this. It has no lights but this isn't mist and
is not DCC ready. It appears to have no cap detailing which is sad but the
overall appearance is good. I would recommend this model and may purchase
one for myself.

Class
58 EWS unweathered
(R2346)
Rating 5/10 Strong puller, good Model.
Same review as the weathered double pack. The only difference between the
two is that this model has no weathering. I personally like weathered models
but if you don't this is the class 58 for you.
