Depot style track plan

Postby ste234 on Tue May 12, 2009 9:40 pm

Hi,
Im currently building my main layout, but i dont want to risk doing all the scenery and ballasting etc and totaly mess it up.
So... ive aqquired a small board ( about 3x2 ish i think ) and this is the first plan for it:

Its just a basic draft for now it will hopefully be some sort of depot for locos like class 66's etc.
Oh and its N gauge :D
Any thoughts?
Many thanks,
Ste.

Same as what I'd like to do; a shelf layout. I did actally make a small depot on some card which let me test my ballast and scatter skills. Just use offcuts of flexitrack or something, looks very good once complete.

Thanks,
Thats what i hope to do, just to hone my skills a bit rather than muck up my main board
Also the pond is there as i hope to have one on my big layout and the roads also.
Cheers,
Ste.

having worked on a modern depot, and been on a reasonably large number I think you have captured the spirit amazing well in a small space.

one thing though, don't use a kit shed, make your own. for a two road shed make it wide enough to have four roads... a full road width between them and a half width at either side. a modern shed has a bit of space for tools and equipment etc. the fuelling point looks fine though, just don't forget to add a tank somewhere, possibly at the right hand end at the front hiding the end of the board from the viewer without needing a tunnel.

looks good though

Hi all,
Ive just measured the board and it is 28x56 Inches, its an old notice board but the back of it is fine so will use that.
Also i think i will use setrack for this, just for ease.
Any more ideas on the plan?
Many thanks,
Ste.

Hi all, started to lay some track today, just put in a few offcuts and i found some spare points lying around, so ive got up to the points completed.
Just need some flexi or set track and i will be able to do more, slow progress though maybe :D

Looks like you'll need to trim your sleepers a little there.
