Oxbury Junction (00) Modern Image

Post by Bord3r »

I have recently joined and from inspiration from other users have decided to start a topic about my layout, Oxbury Junction

It is my first attempt at a layout and so i have decided to keep it reasonably sized.
For background info on the location etc. of Oxbury Junction you can visit my attempt of a website at http://oxburyjunction.webs.com/

Although Track Laying and basic electronics is complete, a track plan is available here http://oxburyjunction.webs.com/tracklayoutandplan.htm

Sorry for the inconvenience of clicking links, still learning the ins and outs of using the forum !!

I will put on a photo update asap

I have decided to go for an area west of London e.g Reading, Oxford, Bristol. I have not yet decided on a particular location

Although Modern Image I intend to set it in a particular year or years.

**First Update**

I have managed to get the track laid onto cork and have fitted all electronics e.g point motors and isolating sections, layout is now ready for the scenic touch!

As not all electronics are in place a temporary control panel is being used, the white board forms solderless circuits so you simply place the wires in the same row to create a connection, black wires are isolating sections and tri-colours are point motors. The point motors operate in a similar fashion to the pen and stud method.

An overview of the station and what will be the more urban side of the layout

My one and only loco! (at the moment) The blue pullman on the terminating line of the station with the other being a through line.

Hopefully more Photos Coming soon :D

I have found some photos of the construction of station platforms for a previous layout that I will "recycle" onto this layout, I will try and upload them soon enough. :D

Looking at the track plan and what I personally want out of the layout, I have decided that I want at least a three line station, so keeping my tarck plan as it is, come up with a prototypical and realistic design that fulfills my "needs". Any advice or ideas would be extremely useful, I will hopefully get a plan with the features "Paint-ed" on.

Thanks

Yes ME again. Below is the track plan with various parts labelled, the box with the question mark is to represent the area that i am not sure about as I would like to incorparate some non passenger usage, As for the rest of the layout I am so far happy. Comments and ideas for the layout welcome.

***UPDATE***
New fiddle yard as been added to the station end to allow for more scenics on the main baseboard
I have decided to have two stations one being a single line branch line station called oxbury junction and a two line main line station called Oxbury Central
I have finally got on to the more creative side and have finished my first platform, this one is for the station Oxbury Junction it was taken from my previous layout, although it did need some TLC.

The added fidddle yard that is designed to be removed, also I had no setrack left so old bits of flexi were used.

The line that serves Oxbury Junction will be slightly less well maintained so I have weathered the track using dark acrylic paint, I then produced a test piece of track to see if my first ever attempt at ballasting would work, it didn't !!!

In the coming week or so I hope to produce all trackside signs e.g. Speed Restrictions and Warning signs for depot etc, these will be construced using printouts and wire, if any one has any ideas or advice on the best way to go about this it would be much appreciated.
Hopefully I will be able to construct Oxbury Centrals Platforms soon although these will be scrach built.
Comments much appreciated
