A run of embankment / viaduct will be good: it is to model trains what the cat walk is for fashion models :)

Thanks SouthernBoy.

I hadn't realised how long it has been since I last updated on here

All the track on board 3 is rust painted now.

I have been working on a stone 4 arch viaduct.

Image

I have lined the inside of the arches with some flexible stone sheet and the more rigid Wills stone sheet for the main front & back stone work. The arches are made from some guttering I had in the garage. It was exactly the right size at 60mm high & just over 70mm wide

There is still some more top stones to add and the edging on the fourth arch isn't completed yet.

I have also started a small quayside section at the far end.

I'm sure that viaduct is going to be a nice picturesque run for your trains. The harbour section reminds me of County Gate, (check the harbour section) - have you seen it?

I'm not a narrow gauge person really - but seeing layouts of the caliber of County Gate and inventiveness of Clifton, I do sometimes ponder other realities :?

Anyway - having just thrown a bucket of cold water over myself I'll just say "I'm looking forward to developments" :-)

Thanks SouthernBoy.

Yes I've seen County Gate    If Carlsberg made narrow gauge model railway layouts.................

You could always build a small narrow gauge diorama as a "test"? If it's anything like Frankland it would be fantastic. Your planning and attention to detail is second to none. Go on you know you want to have a go!

If Carlsberg made narrow gauge model railway layouts.................

ha ha :)

The thing is I also want to model tramways and underground lines :?
Hmmmm, is there such a thing as modelling narrow gauge in N ? No, don't distract me - I have enough of a job as it is remaining self-disciplined and focused on the single theme I'm trying to develop.

Anyway - what's relevant here is the act of discovering those layouts out there that; whilst different to your own; inspire you onwards and upwards - (and that includes you!)

Keep up the good work and posting those updates :)

The main structure of the viaduct is now complete.

The rear wall will be continued to the end of the board on the left hand side. This will prevent trains from falling off should there be any de railments!

I'm now working on the hills. They will all be covered in newspaper using PVA glue, then sprayed dark earth brown. This creates a base coat before I add scatter, grass etc.

That's nicely put together (can't see any joins!) :)

What sort of river are you going for?
Rapid flowing round rocks / slow moving tranquil type / dried up bed with a trickle of water down the middle ?

Thanks SouthernBoy.

Not sure about the water yet, probably slow moving under the middle 2 arches, drying out under the outer 2. I'm going to do a test section on an off cut of wood and see what looks / works best. If the test doesn't go well I can see it being a trickle down the middle

A little progress this week....

I've weathered the station building a bit and glued it in position:

The station canopy is also now glued in position. Benches & plant tubs added to the platform:

I need to order some people for the platform now!

A new addition:

I have made a fair bit of progress with Board 3 now.

Full view:

The main sections from left to right:
Siding leading to fiddle yard:

Viaduct – The river has had a grey / brown base coat:

Rocky sea defence – Made from slate chippings & dust:

Quayside:

Next job will be to add some different shades of scatter, bushes etc. I also have some details to add to the quayside, wooden piles to paint etc. The sleepers are all still to paint. Then plenty of weathering!

I think that looks great Jason - just not so convinced by the blue blanket, I'm sure you can do a better water effect than that

Oooh, you wicked bugger, Mark!

Nice stuff Jason. Really good job on that station and I really like the look of the new section. Lots of different scenery all in a short section but not so much that it looks crammed or anything. Excellent :)

Cheers

Hello Jason,
Excellent modelling on the bridge and even I new that the blanket didn't represent the "water" as it was the wrong shade of blue  Keep modelling, mate, I'll keep watching,
KInd Regards,
Michael Thornberry.

Thanks for the comments.

I couldn't decide what type of scenery to have along this section, so I did a bit of each :D

I'll change the blanket for a brown one to replicate the UK waterways

Been a while since the last update!

The small quay on board 3 has been painted and that's about it!

My time has been spent making this railcar:

Image
Image

It's a converted Parkside Dundas Ffestiniog carriage. The chassis is a Kato N gauge bogie chassis.

And this WHR 2-6-2 loco:

Chivers body kit & Minitrix 2-6-2 N gauge chassis.

Still more painting / detailing to do on the loco.
