Re: Planning: OO Gauge Heritage Line (The S.H.H.R)
Redline, I couldn't see at first glance whether you are going to be using DCC... If not it's going to be useful to have the ability to isolate the outer oval in three sections and the inner loop in two so as to be able to use parts of these to hold trains, or just locos, while shuffling sidings and...

Re: Planning: OO Gauge Heritage Line (The S.H.H.R)
20 days later I've gone through about 15 different revisions of what I want to do. I made end to ends, fiddle yard layouts, bigger, smaller etc. In the end I saw a layout on youtube that I really liked, I sort of played upon it (I think I added 1ft to the length) its a 4x7 baseboard, as to not inter...

Re: Jan 2017 announcements
No updated 43xx or Manor, sorta sad about that. Looks like the only new thing I'll be getting is the Stainer mogul

Re: Planning: OO Gauge Heritage Line (The S.H.H.R)
Well I went ahead and went through some more layout planner ideas... I promise this is the last one  But using the same 4x8 space I came up with this http://i.imgur.com/LCYMjEj.png I could sit in the middle of this and watch the trains go round  Once again I lose the provision of the b...

Re: Planning: OO Gauge Heritage Line (The S.H.H.R)
As much as the figure 8 would be cool to have the changes in elevation, I think I'm just going to stick with the oval. The layout will be in a corner space and to have a section of layout that is completely unreachable is kind of hard to have when something could go wrong. Hi Redline41190. My wife,...

Re: Planning: OO Gauge Heritage Line (The S.H.H.R)
Ooh. Nice. Mine are made with budget in mind, hence I often scratch build. Can make waggons for about a third of the price of a 00 gauge wagon. Use drawing pins and paperclips to make central buffer/couplings. Using centre buffers allows the trains to negotiate sharp curves. I tried to scratch buil...

Re: Planning: OO Gauge Heritage Line (The S.H.H.R)
That's the one Redline. Check out Western Centurion on YouTube. He has a number of videos on producing the system using magnets and metal strip from packing cases - works perfectly well at a fraction of the cost. I just watched one of them and thats impressive, I thought they were using a proprieta...

Re: Planning: OO Gauge Heritage Line (The S.H.H.R)
Decisions decisions I am a master at indecision  I'm approaching that... I truly can't decide. I feel like I should go for the level one just for the sake of simplicity and ease of access. Should something pop off in the back corner it'll be much easier to get to without being in a tunnel or w...

Re: Planning: OO Gauge Heritage Line (The S.H.H.R)
Would installing a magnetic adhesion system allow for those sluggish trains to haul a rake of four coaches up an incline? Paul All I had to do was press down with a small amount of force on the safety valve bonnet and it took them away up the hill. You're speaking of the DCC concepts products aren'...

Re: Planning: OO Gauge Heritage Line (The S.H.H.R)
concern validated... The hall is too light to haul 4 coaches up any kind of serious grade. The A3, N15, and 45xx run away with them though, no issues. I'll have to add weight to the hall over the drivers somehow if I go this route.

Re: Planning: OO Gauge Heritage Line (The S.H.H.R)
Just a French newbie question:    Why did you put these two points in the middle of the station ? WHY.jpg I think somewhere in my mind I was envisioning the ability for shorter train engines to run round in the platforms without having to go to the points that are just before the ...

Re: Planning: OO Gauge Heritage Line (The S.H.H.R)
Some more editing of the curves, and throw some paint on it... It looks very convincing. Just don't know what I'm going to do with all of the stock that wont live on the layout... I guess I'll have to keep the shelf with track on it too. Platforms fit 4 coaches now as well  http://i.imgur.c...

Re: Planning: OO Gauge Heritage Line (The S.H.H.R)
So I was having a go in AnyRail again, after seeing another layout with a similar setup... I feel like this could be pleasing, however I can no longer fit 4 coaches plus loco in the platforms. http://i.imgur.com/5S2kru1.jpg Upper level is 3" above baseboard height, and I feel like the yard is s...

Re: Planning: OO Gauge Heritage Line (The S.H.H.R)
I have tons and tons of left over automotive wiring with various connectors attached, so I'd planned on using that. I also found my old bachmann Manor, though it has seen MUCH better days, and I previously used it as a test bed for weathering / intended restoration project. I used it today to test m...
